Inspired by Nature

When we played the game 'What is catching you eye' , one of the girls was fascinated by the leaves on the trees outside. We had a group discussion about Autumn and all the colours we could see. The following week I asked an artist who specialises in working with Nature to come in and work with the groups. Jyl Friggens took the children out on a Scavenger Hunt to look for colours, using the colour match cards you find in DIY shops.

We took inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy to create our art with natural objects we found on our walk

Back in school we arranged our natural objects, then colour matched them and painted the Autumn Displays we'd created.

We kept all the leaves and started playing with laying them on on paper to explore composition. We then looked at cutouts made by Henri Matisse and used out leaves to make our own cutouts.

These are the cutouts we took inspiration from. Matisse called it 'painting with scissors'

And this is our finished gallery of cutout art
